50 Ways to Use Thieves Oil

Thieves essential oil is a blend of highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-infectious essential oils. Thieves was created from research of a group of 15th-century thieves, the ’4 thieves’, who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the deadly plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying. When apprehended, these thieves disclosed the formula of herbs, spices, and oils they used to protect themselves in exchange for more lenient punishment. It is the story of these 4 thieves which brought forth the popular essential oil blend called Thieves. Thieves essential oil

Studies conducted at Weber State University (Ogden, UT) during 1997 demonstrated its killing power against airborne microorganisms.

  • One analysis showed a 90 percent reduction in the number of gram positive Micrococcus luteus organisms after diffusing for 12 minutes. After 20 minutes of diffusing, the kill rate jumped to 99.3 percent.
  • Another study against the gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa showed a kill rate of 99.96 percent after just 12 minutes of diffusion.

By combining Thieves essential oil with a few basic household items such as; vinegar, baking soda, olive oil, V-6 Massage Oil, or water – you can easily create various different cleaning products and simple first aid remedies.

Protect yourself naturally with Thieves essential oil. The scent of this blend of essential oils is really nice; very warming with cinnamon overtones. And the best part… it is perfect for those who prefer to have an all-natural home!

Not only is Thieves an essential oil but it is an entire line of products! Learn more about the Thieves products and about how to save 24 percent off retail by purchasing the Start Living with Thieves kit.

New Poll! With my Food Storage, I:

Thrive Scrambled Eggs Mix – YUM!

ImageSince the world didn’t end this morning :), I decided to check out my new shipment of Thrive Scrambled Eggs for breakfast.

The instructions on the side said to use 2 tbs mix and 3 tbs water to equal one egg, so I doubled it.  Using a whisk, the mixture began to look like rich scrambled eggs before cooking.  I was impressed so far…

I heated up a pan, sprayed in a little olive oil and poured the mixture into it.  After adding a smidgen of salt & pepper, I cooked it up just like regular fresh eggs.

The result was better than good – it was delicious!  No powdered taste at all, just scrambled egg awesomeness.

Each #10 can has 107 servings – so that’s 107 eggs per can!  Add the fact that there is a 25 YEAR shelf life unopened and a 2 YEAR shelf life opened, I’m sold on this mix.Image (Not to mention storing 107 eggs is ALOT easier when it comes in a can 🙂 )

I’ve already added the #10 cans to my Q and look forward to not having to throw out expired eggs anymore!  I think I’m going to try adding some sausage crumbles, cheese & red peppers next time to make an omelet… YUM!

Keep an eye out for my review on Thrive Egg Whites, for those that are watching their cholesterol levels.

Merry Christmas to all! Blessings,
KD

Guide 10 Plus Adventure Kit

Many of us are preparing on a budget and so we have given up buying (or at least cut back on) products in order to purchase items we feel will help us in the event of an emergency.

One of the downsides to this is that we don’t get the pleasure of using or playing with our “Just In Case goodies” because most of the time the items that we purchase are put away on a shelf  for “Just In Case”.  Well, this is one goodie that you can use now and feel secure knowing that it’s also a great JIC purchase.

useage1_g10plusAdvKitMeet the Guide 10 Plus Adventure Kit.  I own one of these little gems and never leave home without it.  It has saved me from the frustration of a dead cell phone battery more than once.  It also gives me the peace of mind knowing that if I lost power and couldn’t charge my small portables via wall outlets, I have a compact, portable way to stay connected & powered on.

The Guide 10 Plus is capable of charging your smartphone, GPS, iPod, or other hand-held device directly from the sun in 1-2 hours via the Nomad 7 Solar Panel. Or charge up the Guide 10 Plus battery pack and then recharge your phone later 1-3 times.  I’ve used it both ways and it has worked perfectly.  The kit retails for $159 but if you email me and mention this post, you can add it to your preps AND get to use it now for just $120.

Kit Includes:G10PlusAdvKit_glass

  • Nomad 7 (7 watts) Solar Panel
  • DC adapter cable
  • USB cable
  • Solar Cable
  • Guide 10 Plus battery pack
  • 4 AA rechargeable batteries

If you are interested in all the techy stuff about the kit, I’ve added it to the end of this post.  If you are interested in purchase one, just shoot me an email and I’ll be happy to have one ready for you to pick up.

As always, I hope you and yours have a Blessed week!

Another Thrive Cookbook Recipe Trial (& error!)

Well, it’s20121210_175737 been quite awhile since I posted an actual Thrive cookbook recipe challenge, so I thought it was time to get back into the test kitchen (which is actually my home kitchen, just with pictures & commentary).

For our upcoming HCS Co-op meeting (& my dinner), I decided to try out the Macaroni & Cheese recipe.  When I began this recipe, I fully expected that the final product would be somewhat close to boxed macaroni & cheese (we all know the brand I had in mind).

20121210_175855It started simple enough, I mean, this was not a hard recipe.  The only difference between boxed Mac & Cheese and this recipe was that I had to measure out my ingredients.  It called for 3 cups of Thrive Macaroni Noodles, 1 1/2 cups of prepared Thrive Instant Milk (which was super easy since I already had some made), 1/8 cup Thrive Butter Powder & 3/4 cup of Thrive Cheese Blend.

Starting out like any other Mac & Cheese, I boiled the noodles.  Easy enough.  As I was reading the recipe, I saw that it called for a cup and a half of milk.  My first thought was, that’s alot of milk.  Then I thought, they must know what they are doing, so in went the milk (from past experience20121210_182409 I should have known better, alas, I have no excuse).

After adding the cheese blend & butter powder to the noodles & milk, I had, well….Mac & Cheese Soup.  “Yuck” immediately sprang to mind.  Not willing to give up (I was hungry), I decided that adding more cheese blend powder might help.  It began to thicken after adding about another 1/2 cup of cheese blend powder but it was not enough to combat the soupy mixture.  A taste test quickly told me that adding even more cheese blend would be a mistake.

In order to salvage the meal (and actually eat dinner before 10 p.m.), I decided to add in some Thrive Cheddar Cheese and bake it at 425 for about 20 minutes.  20121210_184947It actually turned out pretty good but still way too buttery for my taste.
After overnight in the fridge, it turned out just like baked Mac & Cheese.  I received many compliments on it at the HCS Co-op meeting the next day, so I guess my recipe triage worked… either that or they were just being nice 🙂

The moral of this story is two fold: Don’t wait until an emergency to learn to cook with your food storage; you might not have the luxury to “fix” a recipe or start over.  And second, use common sense when following a recipe; if it sounds wrong, proceed with caution.  It’s always easy to add more, but you can’t undo what’s already been done.

Here is what I would have done differently:
Start with only 1/3 cup of milk and add more as needed
Use only 2 teaspoons of butter powder (then taste, add more if needed)
Use 1/2 cup more cheese blend powder (taste test first to see if it is needed)

I still love my Thrive Cookbook and it was worth the purchase price, even if it becomes just a loose guideline as I continue to experiment with my food storage.

I’ll try again soon using the above modifications and hopefully, I’ll end up with something closer to that famous boxed Mac & Cheese that I love!

Until next time,
Happy Prepping!
